Your Technical Guide to Choosing the Right Camera

Choosing the right EOIR camera is essential for achieving reliable imaging performance in demanding environments. Start by identifying your application requirements, operational goals, target range, and environmental conditions. Select the appropriate EOIR camera type and specifications based on your mission needs, including sensor type, resolution, spectral band, frame rate, and integration requirements. We offer a comprehensive range of EOIR cameras, from visible and SWIR cameras to LWIR thermal imaging systems. We also help you choose the right optics, lenses, and imaging accessories tailored to your industry application and deployment environment.

Each EO/IR system is designed with a specific infrared spectrum in mind, depending on the target, required range, and environmental conditions. SWIR typically operates in the 0.9–2.3 µm range, MWIR in the 3–5 µm range, and LWIR in the 8–14 µm range

IR cameras are available in both cooled and uncooled variants. Cooled cameras are preferred for higher sensitivity & long-range performance, while uncooled cameras are compact and cost-effective, with a trade-off in noise levels

IR cameras typically come in resolutions such as 320p, 640p, and 1280p, but feature larger pixel sizes. These larger pixels enhance sensitivity, compensate for lower quantum efficiency, and enable better performance with long focal length optics and lower F-number lenses

EO/visible cameras operate in the 400–900nm (Visible to NIR)spectrum. Camera selection is based on sensor type, low-light performance, and lens configuration, with options ranging from compact single-board cameras to integrated zoom block cameras

For long-range EO/IR systems, both optical and digital zoom become important selection criteria. Optical zoom is achieved through lens movement, preserving full resolution and image quality, while digital zoom enlarges existing pixels, resulting in a loss of image quality

Every EO/IR system is defined by the target and the distance at which it must be detected, recognized, and identified. Selecting the right camera resolution and lens focal length is critical to meeting the required DRI performance
